BACKGROUND:
Oracle sells database and application software and cloud services, and is turning into one of the largest builders of AI data-center capacity through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Remaining performance obligations, meaning contracted revenue not yet recognized, rose from $137.8 billion in May 2025 to $664 billion in August 2026, mostly from multi-year AI compute contracts. Co-founder Lawrence Ellison is Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS:
For the three months ended 8/31/26 revenue grew 30% to $19.3 billion and OCI revenue grew 121%. Capital spending was $55.7 billion in fiscal 2026 and is guided to $90–95 billion this year; free cash flow was −$23.7 billion last year. Debt has risen to about $130 billion of notes, and Oracle sold $20 billion of new shares in the August quarter. Management guides fiscal 2027 (to May 2027) to at least $90 billion of revenue and $8.10 of non-GAAP EPS.
PROSPECTS:
The shares have halved over the past year, to $137.30, and sell at 16.9× fiscal 2027 consensus EPS. Analysts expect the backlog to produce 26% annual EPS growth; the balance sheet leaves less room for error than at any time in Oracle's history. In our view Oracle is the cheapest AI name on earnings and the most stretched on cash; confidence would rise if free cash flow turned positive as new capacity comes on line.
